Yesterday afternoon, our Managing Director, Elena Cuberos, received the Award for Women’s Professional Achievement at the 2nd Málaga Awards for Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership, organised by the Andalusian network Unimos Talento. The award recognises more than two decades at the helm of Exxacon Smart Living and a leadership style that has transformed a Málaga-based property developer into a national benchmark in the residential sector.
This is a source of immense pride for the entire Exxacon team. It is also an opportunity to highlight something in which we deeply believe: that when female talent is given real opportunities, it transforms companies and sectors.
A career that has grown alongside Exxacon
Graduate in Economics from the University of Seville and holder of an MBA from San Telmo Business School, Elena Cuberos began her career in auditing and investment analysis, gaining experience at Expo ’92 in Seville and at AGESA. In 2001, she joined Exxacon – practically from its inception – to take on the role of Managing Director. Since then, her career and that of the company have gone hand in hand.
Under her leadership, Exxacon has developed 49 property developments and over 3,000 homes, and currently has 18 active developments comprising more than 1,600 homes in Málaga and the Costa del Sol, the Community of Madrid, Seville, Valencia and Alicante. In 2025, the company recorded a turnover of 91 million euros, 4.6 per cent more than the previous year, and sold 322 homes. Its strategic plan up to 2032 envisages a total investment of 860 million euros.
The jury particularly commended several aspects of her career:
- Resilience. Following the 2008 property crisis, which caused many of the country’s property developers to disappear or grind to a halt, Exxacon managed to adapt, remain active and continue to build a solid business.
- Leadership in a male-dominated sector. Elena has held the highest position of responsibility in a field where the presence of women in management roles has traditionally been limited, thereby setting an example for future generations.
- Commitment to female talent. Today, 69.6 per cent of Exxacon’s workforce are women (39 out of 56 professionals), as are 5 of the 13 members of the Management Committee and 54 per cent of managerial, department head and technical roles.
- Sustainability and innovation. Elena has championed the Smart Living model, which combines design, technology and respect for the environment. One example is Urban Litoral in Málaga, the first residential development in Andalusia to achieve Passivhaus certification.
A gala to celebrate the talent of women from Málaga
The awards ceremony took place yesterday, 1 October, from 6.30 pm, at the Hospital Real de la Misericordia Cultural Centre, the Hospitalillo in Marbella. Organised by Unimos Talento, Combo Comunicación and Foro Mujeres Líderes, this second edition received 27 nominations from across the province of Málaga.
The evening brought together institutional representatives, businesswomen, female entrepreneurs and professionals from various sectors. In addition to the awards ceremony, the programme included a round-table discussion with female entrepreneurs and a networking session. The awards are sponsored by Caja Rural and Rethink by IA Neozeler, with the collaboration of organisations such as the University of Málaga, Andalucía Emprende and the Andalusian Institute for Women.
The winners of this provincial edition will now be nominated for the Andalusian Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Awards.
Congratulations to all the award winners
Sharing this recognition with women and organisations from such diverse backgrounds makes it all the more special. We at Exxacon would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to all this year’s award winners:
- Ana María Cabello García, Women’s Culture Award.
- Rocío Fernández Barrientos, Women’s Innovative Project Award.
- Raquel Poncela González, Women’s Science and Technology Award.
- Asociación CADI, Women’s Sport Award.
Their careers demonstrate that women’s talent drives culture, innovation, science and sport in our province. We wish them the very best of luck in the Andalusian round.
An award we the team share
This award recognises Elena Cuberos’s career, but also the work of the whole team who, day in, day out, build Exxacon. We would like to thank Unimos Talento and its judging panel for this recognition, and for their work in raising the profile of women’s leadership across all sectors.
From Málaga, we will continue to work with the same vision that Elena has instilled in the company: rigour, a commitment to talent and a drive to shape the future of the residential sector.
Congratulations, Elena!
